UNIMA FOURTH-YEAR STUDENT ASPIRES FOR PARLIAMENTARY SEAT IN LILONGWE’S MUDE CONSTITUENCY

A 24-year-old University of Malawi (UNIMA) student, Shiela Goodwell, is vying for a parliamentary seat in the 2025 elections under the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) banner.

Goodwell, in her final year studying Social and Economic History with a minor in Public Administration, aims to represent Mude Constituency in Lilongwe, driven by a desire to better serve the community and empower women economically.

She plans to collaborate with TEVET to establish a polytechnic at Chikowa Trading Center, providing youth with technical and vocational training to boost their economic prospects. “I will ensure that the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is utilized transparently and for its intended purpose, benefiting the constituents,” Goodwell stated.

Regarding healthcare, Goodwell pledged to procure an ambulance for Chikowa Health Center and to advocate for improved healthcare facilities, including a new health center at Nyanda Trading Center. She emphasized the importance of safe drinking water for her constituents.

In education, Goodwell promised to increase bursaries for secondary students, provide uniforms for needy learners, install solar power in primary schools, and construct a stadium to promote sports. She also plans to establish sports leagues to attract talent scouts.

She called on the people of Mude to support her bid for sustainable development in the 2025 parliamentary elections. Mude, a new constituency spanning parts of Traditional Authorities Kabudula and Khongoni, is currently represented by Mphatso Boti.
