STOP CURSING YOUR NATION, AND AVOID SPREADING FALSE INFORMATION – RELIGIOUS LEADERS URGE MALAWIANS.

Religious leaders in the country have urged people to stop cursing their own country through their speeches.

The call was made on Saturday at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe during the National Service of Worship commemorating Malawi’s 60th Independence Anniversary.

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera attended the prayers, where he promised to serve the nation by promoting unity.

In his message from the book of Job 2 verses 8-10, Reverend Hamilton Yasin Gama of CCAP Nkhoma Synod advised people to avoid insinuating each other and making statements of hatred and jealousy against each other.

“There are some people who even curse their own country as if they will not live in it anymore. This is not good because whatever affects Malawi will affect everyone in one way or another,” said Rev. Gama.

Rev. Gama added that this tendency has the potential to destroy the image of any country.

He called on people to emulate the good example of Job, who did not say anything against his own country or even God when he was going through difficult times.

The Interim Chairperson of the Quadria Muslim Association of Malawi, Sheikh Jaffar Kawinga, urged people to avoid publishing false information.

“There are some people, including members of the media, religious leaders, and others who are in self-imposed exile because they publish and spread false information in their countries due to the challenges,” he said.

He stated that as a way of promoting peace and unity in Malawi, people should avoid creating, publishing, and spreading false information because it affects national development.

During the Service of Worship, religious leaders said that the challenges which Malawi has been going through should strengthen the nation’s unity and encourage working together for prosperity.

They said that Malawi must rise and capitalize on past experiences to build resilience and promote unity.

The clergy prayed for national unity, resilience, and coexistence, national healing, comfort, and prayers against suicide, national leadership and governance, patriotism, and economic growth and development.
