Chikale Primary School has emerged as the champion of the Maphunziro Mbambande quiz competition for Nkhata Bay district, a literacy-focused initiative implemented by Healthwise Organization in partnership with World Vision. The competition aims to enhance literacy levels among learners across the country.
The thrilling final, held at Sanga Community Day Secondary School, saw Chikale Primary School secure victory over Kande Primary School with a score of 56 points to 26.
Jellings Kamanga, representing the headteacher of Chikale Primary School, expressed his excitement over the win.
“We have been working hard to train our learners and have encouraged them to study diligently at home. This victory is a testament to their dedication,” he said.
Nkhata Bay District Principal Primary Education Advisor, Edrian Kalengo, underscored the importance of quiz competitions in promoting literacy among learners. He commended Chikale Primary School for their achievement, stating that it would inspire both students and teachers to continue striving for excellence.
“This victory serves as a wake-up call for teachers who are not performing to their fullest potential and encourages learners to work harder to achieve their goals,” Kalengo remarked.
Innocent Uladi, the project manager for Healthwise, expressed his satisfaction with the competition’s outcome, noting the significant improvements seen in the participating schools.
“Our goal is to see continued progress in the schools we are targeting, and as we approach the national finals, we anticipate even tougher competition,” Uladi said.
As district champions, Chikale Primary School was awarded a trophy, writing materials, various game balls, and bags. The runners-up, Kande Primary School, also received consolation prizes.
The Maphunziro Mbambande quiz competition continues to be a driving force in improving literacy rates in Malawi, with Chikale Primary School setting a strong example for others to follow.
