CHAKWERA CALLS FOR COLLECTIVE EFFORT TO ACHIEVE UN SDGS AHEAD OF UNGA

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has emphasized the need for collective responsibility among United Nations (UN) member states to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Speaking at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) on Wednesday before departing for the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, scheduled for September 20-27, 2024, Chakwera highlighted that no country can reach the SDGs without the support of others. He called for concerted efforts in addressing the challenges encountered in implementing the goals.

Chakwera noted that the UNGA would serve as an opportunity for member states to share progress and challenges faced in the SDG implementation process, stating, “There is tangible progress being made, but we must continue striving to achieve the goals.”

During the assembly, President Chakwera will attend the Summit of the Future, a high-level meeting on the Miombo Forest Declaration, and a session on Antimicrobial Resistance. He is also expected to deliver a National Statement to garner support for Malawi’s development priorities.
