President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is set to preside over the official launch of the 2024-2025 Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP) at Dzundu Primary School grounds in Traditional Authority Symon’s area, Neno District. The launch is a pivotal event for the nation’s agricultural sector as farmers gear up for the upcoming farming season.
The AIP, a flagship initiative of the Malawian government, aims to support over 2.4 million farmers this year, providing them with critical agricultural inputs at subsidized prices. A key component of this year’s program is ensuring that the price of fertilizer remains at 15,000 Kwacha, a crucial measure to make this essential farming resource accessible to smallholder farmers.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Smallholder Farmers Fertilizer Revolving Fund, Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring an adequate supply of fertilizer and other inputs for the upcoming farming season. He emphasized that the government is fully prepared to support farmers and enhance productivity through the AIP.
“The Affordable Inputs Programme continues to be a cornerstone of our agricultural policy, and this year we are ensuring that farmers across the country have timely access to affordable fertilizer, seeds, and livestock,” said Kawale.
As the farming season approaches, the AIP has become a beacon of hope for many farmers, providing not only fertilizer but also seeds and livestock, all at subsidized rates. This support is expected to boost agricultural productivity and contribute to national food security.
The official launch at Dzundu Primary School is anticipated to attract significant attention, marking a critical moment for Malawi’s agriculture as the country strives to bolster its food production and rural livelihoods through targeted government interventions.
