President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera assured residents that the government will continue investing in infrastructure to support farmers and create a better business environment in Malawi. Speaking during a whistle-stop tour at Ntchisi Boma on Wednesday, Chakwera highlighted that natural disasters, especially those linked to El Niño weather patterns, have hindered entrepreneurship and reduced crop yields in the district.
“I know people in Ntchisi are hardworking, but famine occurred due to El Niño. The government will support you through irrigation farming or rain-fed agriculture,” Chakwera stated, adding that initiatives like Social Cash Transfers and Affordable Fertilizer Inputs are being mobilized with the help of the Ministries of Agriculture, Finance, Local Government, and Gender.
Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda, noted that various government programs are underway to help citizens, cautioning against favoritism in the distribution of resources. Senior Chief Malenga commended the government’s focus on development projects, which he said have brought positive changes to Ntchisi.
