FIRST LADY MONICA CHAKWERA INAUGURATES JALIRA GIRLS BOARDING SECONDARY SCHOOL IN RUMPHI

First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera officially inaugurated Jalira Girls Boarding Secondary School in Rumphi District on Monday, celebrating a significant step forward for girls’ education in Malawi.

In her remarks, Madame Chakwera expressed gratitude to Sister Ruth Baek from Korea, who spearheaded the school’s construction. “The opening of this beautiful school reflects a commitment to promoting girls’ education in Malawi,” she said.

Minister of Education, Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima, highlighted that the new school would help boost girls’ enrollment in secondary education, addressing a crucial need in the region.

During the event, Paramount Chief Themba la Matemba Chikulamayembe announced that the newly constructed school would be renamed “Monica Chakwera Secondary School” in honor of the First Lady, recognizing her vision and dedication to the project.

The school was fully funded and constructed by the Keran People. With this addition, Malawi now has eight government secondary schools dedicated exclusively to girls.
