PRESIDENT CHAKWERA URGES FARMERS TO WORK HARD FOR BUMPER HARVEST

President Lazarus Chakwera has encouraged citizens across the country to work diligently in their fields to ensure a bumper harvest next year.

Speaking on Saturday at Mpingu Trading Centre in Lilongwe South West Constituency, President Chakwera emphasized the importance of taking advantage of the early rains to plant crops. He highlighted the unpredictability of weather patterns due to climate change and the need for timely farming efforts.

“We have started the distribution of the Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP) on time this year to give farmers more time to work in their fields. It is our prayer that this year we receive sufficient rains for a bumper yield next year,” said Chakwera.

The President also urged citizens not included in the AIP to explore opportunities through the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) loans to purchase farm inputs. He called on authorities responsible for NEEF to expedite loan processing to allow more people to benefit.

Jean Sendeza, Member of Parliament for Lilongwe South West and Minister of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare, praised the government for ongoing infrastructure development in her constituency. She noted improvements in potable water access, electricity, and road networks, which are positively impacting the community’s livelihoods.

As the agricultural season begins, President Chakwera’s message reinforced the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening Malawi’s food security.
