GOVERNMENT PRAISES ONE ACRE FUND’S IMPACT ON FARMERS

The Malawi government has lauded One Acre Fund, an agricultural organization, for its impactful services that boost productivity among farmers.

Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale expressed his appreciation, highlighting the organization’s contributions to the agricultural sector. Speaking on Monday after presenting a ministerial statement on the National Agriculture Management Information System (NAMIS), Kawale emphasized the need to recognize One Acre Fund’s efforts in promoting commercial farming.

“The organization provides organic fertilizer to farmers, moving from one district to another to promote and increase productivity,” said Kawale.

The discussion on One Acre Fund arose after Ajilu Kalitendere, Member of Parliament for Machinga North East, questioned why the government was not offering fertilizer loans to farmers, as One Acre Fund does.

Public Relations Officer for One Acre Fund, Thandiwe Ngwira Selemani, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting farmers, staying true to its slogan, “Farmers First.”

“To date, we have invested over K24 billion in nine districts, reaching more than 140,000 farmers,” Selemani stated. She also noted that 95% of agricultural inputs had already been dispatched to farmers to ensure timely support.

One Acre Fund operates by providing agricultural inputs on credit with flexible repayment terms over 11 months. Its model addresses farmers’ challenges through four pillars: Finance, Training, Delivery, and Market Facilitation.
