President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera touched down at Al Bateen Executive International Airport in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), to kick off a high-level visit aimed at strengthening ties and addressing critical challenges facing Malawi.
Invited by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the visit will focus on exploring long-term solutions to Malawi’s ongoing fuel supply challenges and fostering broader bilateral cooperation.
The UAE, a global leader in petroleum production, currently produces an average of 3.2 million barrels per day, with ambitious plans to boost capacity to 5 million barrels daily by 2030. Discussions during President Chakwera’s visit are expected to leverage the UAE’s expertise and resources to bolster Malawi’s energy security.
Upon their arrival, the Malawian delegation was warmly received by the Ambassador of Malawi to Kuwait and the Gulf region, along with senior UAE Government officials, underscoring the significance of the visit.
This engagement marks another step in Malawi’s efforts to secure sustainable solutions for its energy sector and deepen international partnerships.
