EDITH KACHALE BANDA PROMISES DEVELOPMENT FOR ZOMBA MALOSA CONSTITUENCY

Edith Kachale Banda, aspiring Member of Parliament for Zomba Malosa under the People’s Party (PP), has pledged to bring significant development to her constituency if elected in the 2025 general elections.

Speaking at a political meeting in Songani, Group Village Head Masambuka’s area, Kachale Banda, the daughter of former President Joyce Banda, outlined her commitment to addressing key challenges faced by the people of Zomba Malosa.

Kachale Banda noted that the constituency has been deprived of essential development activities since 2019.

“I have many good things that I will do for the people of Zomba Malosa. Among others, I will build houses for the elderly, rehabilitate bridges, and upgrade Songani community grounds into a stadium to promote sports,” she promised.

Further addressing local issues, Kachale Banda said the PP would tackle hunger by ensuring a consistent supply of maize and providing flour for the Feeding Program in Community-Based Childcare Centers. She also committed to empowering women and youth economically, through various business ventures aimed at improving their livelihoods.

In addition, Kachale Banda expressed dissatisfaction with the current phase of the Voter Registration process, citing that many eligible voters in Zomba Malosa were unable to register due to the unavailability of National Registration Bureau (NRB) staff at some centers. She called on the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to redo the registration exercise in Zomba Malosa, to ensure that all eligible voters can participate in the upcoming elections.

Group Village Head Masambuka, who also attended the meeting along with 58 traditional leaders and their subjects, highlighted several challenges facing the community, including hunger and difficulty crossing the Songani River. He urged Kachale Banda to address these issues, specifically calling for the construction of a bridge to ease mobility.

The traditional leader assured Kachale Banda of the support of local chiefs and the community in the 2025 parliamentary elections, promising a vote for better livelihood and sustainable development in Zomba Malosa.

The political meeting marked a significant moment for Kachale Banda’s campaign, as she continues to build support for her bid to represent the constituency in the next parliament.
