PEACE COMMISSION ENGAGES POLITICAL LEADERS AHEAD OF SEPTEMBER POLLS

The Malawi Peace Commission (MPC) has begun engaging political party leaders to ensure the September 16 elections are free, fair, and free from political violence.

Commission Chairperson Bishop Mary Nkosi said the commission has already met with UTM president Dr. Dalitso Kabambe and plans to meet former president Dr. Bakili Muluzi soon.

The engagement comes as incidents of violence have already been reported during ongoing political party primaries, raising concerns about the credibility of the upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, political analyst Victor Chipofya has commended the commission for its proactive approach.

The country has witnessed violence during primaries for several parties, including the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
