President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has called on public officers to uphold integrity and resist the temptation of personal enrichment at the expense of service delivery.
He made the remarks on Wednesday during the official opening of the High Court, Commercial Division Principal Registry building in Blantyre.
“There are naive people in this country who think it takes an evil person in the judiciary to accept a bribe for a favourable judgment, or at the Roads Authority to cut corners,” Chakwera said, emphasizing the importance of ethical conduct in public service.
The President urged public officers to lead by example, adhering to Malawi’s laws, regulations, and professional ethics in the execution of their duties.

Chief Justice Rizine Mzikamanda commended the President for demonstrating political will, which he said was instrumental in the completion of the court building that had stalled since 2010.
Justice Minister Titus Mvalo noted that the Commercial Division plays a vital role in resolving business disputes efficiently, thereby promoting trade, investment, and economic growth.
The newly opened High Court Commercial Division is a specialized court tasked with handling commercial disputes, further strengthening Malawi’s judicial system.
