CHAKWERA URGES FOCUS ON NATION-BUILDING AND DISMISSES FALSE NARRATIVES

President Lazarus Chakwera has called on Malawians to commit to building a resilient and inclusive nation, emphasizing that development must serve all citizens including women and the youth and transcend political cycles.

Speaking at a national event aimed at highlighting government achievements, Chakwera said Malawi must prioritize long-term development with a shared vision that outlives any single administration.

“While initiatives may differ in focus, the commitment to keep building must remain constant,” he said.

The President took the opportunity to push back against what he described as “false narratives” regarding his administration’s track record.

“One of the lies being spread is that my administration has not completed any meaningful development projects,” Chakwera said. “But we have completed over 600 projects to date — that’s a fact.”

He also dismissed assertions that the completed projects were merely carried over from previous governments. Chakwera stressed that national development is inherently a collaborative, generational effort.

“If we go by that logic, then every project in this country was initiated by Kamuzu Banda,” he argued. “The truth is, each regime builds on the work of the last. What matters is that we are building and building for the future.”

He said the event was not only meant to showcase tangible progress but also to set the record straight and rally Malawians around a common goal of sustainable development.

Chakwera’s remarks come amid rising political debate on the pace and scope of development under his leadership, as the country continues to tackle economic and infrastructural challenges.
