President Lazarus Chakwera has hailed the commissioning of the Dedza One-Stop Border Post as a major step toward enhancing trade, regional connectivity, and economic development between Malawi and Mozambique.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held in Dedza District alongside Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo, Chakwera emphasized that the facility symbolizes his government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and unlocking economic opportunities.
“The Dedza One-Stop Border Post is not just a gateway between two nations, but a gateway to progress,” said President Chakwera. “It marks a new era of cooperation that will drive growth and efficiency for both Malawi and Mozambique.”
President Chapo echoed similar sentiments, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to facilitating trade and accelerating economic growth for both nations. He also called for unity, stressing the deep cultural and historical ties between the two countries.
“Malawi and Mozambique are one people,” Chapo stated. “This project reflects our shared vision for development and integration.”
Minister of Trade Vitumbiko Mumba lauded the border post as a transformative project that will serve as a bridge for economic development. He noted that the facility will improve operational efficiency and help eliminate unnecessary border delays.
Mumba also expressed gratitude to the World Bank and other development partners for supporting the implementation of the initiative, highlighting their vital role in realizing the project.
The Dedza One-Stop Border Post is expected to significantly streamline cross-border movement and trade, fostering deeper regional cooperation between Malawi and Mozambique.
