BWAILA MEDIA CLUB, NICE PARTNER TO TRAIN JOURNALISTS FOR ELECTIONS

The General Secretary of Bwaila Media Club (BMC), Moses Chitsulo, has announced the club’s readiness to train journalists from various media houses in the central region ahead of the September 16 general elections.

Chitsulo made the remarks on Tuesday, May 17, during the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BMC and the National Initiative for Civic Education (NICE) Public Trust in Lilongwe.

The MoU aims to enhance collaboration in civic education and information sharing, with a focus on increasing the visibility and participation of women in politics. Statistics continue to show that women remain underrepresented in political spaces due to limited social capital.

“As a media club, we understand the critical role that information plays in shaping public opinion, fostering transparency, and promoting accountability,” said Chitsulo. “Civic education is the heart of a functioning democracy, and it is only through collaboration and a shared vision that we can reach every corner of society with messages that inspire participation, responsibility, and unity.”

NICE Executive Director Grey Kalindekafe echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of media partnerships in civic education.

“NICE believes it cannot operate in isolation. We rely on partners like the media to ensure that all Malawians are well informed,” Kalindekafe said. “This MoU between Bwaila Media Club and NICE Trust is not just ceremonial it is a call to strengthen the pillars of truth, accountability, and civic empowerment.”
