MALAWI UNVEILS NATIONAL TEACHER POLICY TO BOOST EDUCATION QUALITY

The Director of Teacher Education and Development in the Ministry of Higher Education, Dr. Zizwa Msukuma, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming the teaching profession through the Malawi National Teacher Policy.

Speaking during the National Teacher Policy Validation Meeting held at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe, Dr. Msukuma said the policy is a critical step toward addressing long-standing challenges in teacher development and improving the overall quality of education.

He commended stakeholders for their collaborative efforts, stressing that the shared vision is to empower teachers and guarantee quality education for all Malawian children.

“Our collective goal is to establish a strong framework that empowers educators, raises learning outcomes, and fulfills the promise of quality education for every child in Malawi,” said Dr. Msukuma.

The policy, developed in partnership with UNESCO and the Norwegian Teacher Initiative, is designed to professionalize teaching and improve education outcomes across all levels pre-primary, primary, secondary, and teacher education institutions.

Its key objectives include enhancing teacher quality, improving deployment practices, fostering supportive teaching environments, and promoting equity in the education sector.
