CHAKWERA IN NIGERIA FOR AFREXIM BANK ANNUAL MEETINGS

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, to attend the 32nd Annual Meetings of the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM Bank), running from June 25 to 27. He is expected to join fellow African and Caribbean Heads of State and Government, development partners, and global financial leaders at one of the continent’s most anticipated economic forums.

AFREXIM Bank’s annual meetings are renowned for high-level policy dialogues on critical socio-economic issues shaping Africa’s development. This year’s theme, “Building the Future on Decades of Resilience,” reflects Africa’s progress over the past 30 years and the bold steps needed to address emerging global challenges.

Upon his arrival at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, President Chakwera—accompanied by First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera—was warmly received by Nigeria’s Chief of Protocol Ibrahim Agumbi, Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo, and other government officials.

During the summit, President Chakwera is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with global and African leaders to strengthen partnerships in Malawi’s priority sectors: agriculture, tourism, and mining, as well as other enabling sectors.

Key engagements will include meetings with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, AFREXIM Bank President Professor Benedict Oramah, and other influential leaders to promote investment opportunities in Malawi and foster strategic cooperation.

AFREXIM Bank, a Pan-African multilateral financial institution, has for over 30 years played a vital role in financing and promoting intra- and extra-African trade. Its support to Malawi includes a landmark US$100 million Trade Finance Facilitation Facility with National Bank of Malawi (NBM), aimed at boosting transactions in manufacturing, energy, and agriculture.
