The Neno Road, which residents have been complaining about since 1964, is finally being tarmacked.
People are hopeful that once the construction is complete, aspects such as business, health services, education, and general transportation will greatly improve, particularly the journey to Tsangano in Ntcheu District, which will become much easier.
This road is being constructed by CR-20, who have promised to build a modern and durable roadway, alleviating the frequent complaints about its condition.
Communities in Magaleta, Ndoma, Msasa, Kambale, Soka, Leketa, Zidala, Tsangano, and surrounding areas, including traditional leaders, are very happy to see this long-awaited project finally underway. For many years, this road was simply filled with stones and never properly constructed.
Chiefs and the people of Neno are particularly excited to see work progressing on this road, especially as the country approaches elections and political campaigns are in full swing, with just a few days remaining before Malawians go to vote.
Residents of Neno are relieved because the challenges they face during the rainy season, such as being unable to enter or leave Neno due to terrible mud conditions, will soon be a thing of the past.
Neno District is home to several notable features that put it on the map of Malawi, including the SDA Mission School known as Matandani, tourist attractions, beautiful mountain ranges, and various crops that people from Blantyre and other districts depend on. However, due to poor road conditions, transportation to and from the area, especially from the Neno Turn-Off connecting to Mwanza Road, has always been difficult.
With this road project now underway, the transportation challenges in Neno will be reduced, allowing people to conduct their business freely.
