NATIONAL PLANNING COMMISSION MEETS MINISTER BEN PHIRI ON 2063 AGENDA

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr. Ben Phiri, on Monday, held a meeting with the top management of the National Planning Commission (NPC) at his office at Capital Hill in Lilongwe.

In his welcome remarks, Dr. Phiri said his office remains open to discussions that promote the government’s vision for a better and more developed Malawi.

The Minister further requested the Commission to formulate a concept outlining each district’s potential areas for development activities to guide resource allocation and planning.

NPC Commissioner Mercy Maso briefed the Minister on key areas of collaboration, which included the operationalization of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), the Secondary Cities Programme, local council resource mobilization, as well as decentralization and devolution initiatives.

Dr. Phiri noted that donor fatigue continues to pose challenges to national development efforts.

“There is need for the NPC to develop a well-crafted implementation framework that identifies and addresses gaps hindering sustainable growth”, he said.

NPC team shared official documents with Dr. Phiri to familiarize him with recent developments ahead of a follow-up meeting to be scheduled at a later date.
