MAYOR URGES LANDOWNERS TO BOOST ZOMBA’S DEVELOPMENT

Zomba City Mayor, Councillor Christopher Jana, has urged all residents who own land within the city to take an active role in promoting urban growth by developing their plots.

He made the call on Thursday during the official opening ceremony of Diplomat Private Hospital, a newly established modern health facility in the city.

Mayor Jana applauded the hospital’s owner, Mr. Andrew Namkwenya, for what he described as a clear demonstration of commitment to Zomba’s development agenda.

He noted that the establishment of Diplomat Private Hospital reflects how private investment can help address public service gaps while stimulating economic progress.

The Mayor emphasized that proper and responsible land use does not only boost infrastructure development but also enhances the aesthetic appeal of the city.

He added that such investments are essential in uplifting service delivery standards and creating a more vibrant urban environment for residents and visitors.

Mayor Jana further highlighted that the new private hospital will significantly improve access to modern healthcare services for communities in Zomba and surrounding districts.

He concluded by noting that the facility is aligned with Malawi’s Vision 2063 and national health strategies, which promote expanded healthcare access, reduced disease burdens, and stronger public-private partnerships in the health sector.
