PDP HOLDS EXECUTIVE MEETING AMID WAVE OF SENIOR RESIGNATIONS

The People’s Development Party (PDP) is this morning convening a critical central executive committee meeting in Lilongwe to outline a strategic roadmap for 2026 to 2030.

The session also seeks to review the party’s performance in the September 16 election, as leaders assess lessons learned and chart the way forward.

PDP President Kondwani Nankhumwa is chairing the meeting, with Vice President Rose Sakala and former presidential running mate Bertha Ndebele also in attendance.

According to PDP Secretary General Fortunate Simeon Phiri, the gathering will focus on reorganizing the party’s leadership structure by filling several vacant positions.

Phiri confirmed that at least five senior posts remain unoccupied, a situation he described as urgent for the party’s stability and future operations.

The meeting comes at a time when the PDP has been grappling with a series of high-level resignations, many of which have been attributed to personal reasons.

The latest departures include Publicity Secretary Rhodes Msonkho and National Director of Research Sosten Chimimba.

Both officials confirmed their resignations to MBC but declined to provide further details on what prompted their decisions.

Their exit adds to growing concerns about internal cohesion within the party as it attempts to rebuild ahead of future political contests.

Efforts to obtain further comment from other PDP officials proved unsuccessful, with calls and messages going unanswered.
