Political and governance analyst Dr. George Chaima has urged the Malawi Government to engage highly qualified and independent aviation accident experts to investigate the plane crash that claimed the life of former Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima.
Dr. Chaima said the involvement of credible professionals would help ensure that the investigation is thorough, transparent, and capable of producing findings that Malawians and the international community can trust.
He noted that many Malawians still have unanswered questions surrounding the tragic incident, and stressed that delays or a weak investigation could deepen public suspicion and dissatisfaction.
According to Dr. Chaima, the government must act with urgency and seriousness by appointing experts who are known for integrity and professionalism, and who cannot be influenced or compromised during the investigation process.
He emphasized that aviation accidents require specialized technical knowledge, adding that relying on inadequately trained personnel could undermine the credibility of the final report.
Dr. Chaima was responding to recent remarks made by the Deputy Minister of Homeland Security, Norman Chisale, who said he had visited Chikangawa Forest, the site where the aircraft crash occurred.
While acknowledging the importance of government officials visiting the crash site, Dr. Chaima said such visits should not replace the need for a fully independent and professional investigation team.
He concluded by appealing to authorities to prioritize truth and accountability, saying a credible investigation would not only honor the memory of the victims but also strengthen public confidence in national institutions.
