Government has announced that the Roads Authority has made notable progress in repairing damaged infrastructure along the M1 Road following recent heavy rains.
The repairs are part of ongoing efforts to restore safe movement for motorists and protect key transport routes affected by flooding.
According to officials, Nkhamenya, where a bridge had previously been washed away, is now passable, restoring an important transport link for road users.
This development has brought relief to travelers and businesses that rely on the M1 Road for daily transportation.
In addition, Mpasadzi Bridge has been repaired to a level where it can now safely accommodate vehicles weighing up to five tonnes.
Authorities say the upgrade will help ease traffic flow while longer-term solutions are being considered.
Regarding the M5 Road in Nkhotakota District, where at least five bridges were washed away, government has cautioned that the situation remains uncertain due to continued flooding, despite ongoing repair works.
A statement signed by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Justin Saidi, says President Arthur Peter Mutharika has directed the Ministry of Transport and the Roads Authority to inspect all bridges on the country’s main roads to ensure they remain passable as the rainy season continues.
