Government has partially reversed its earlier decision to delay the opening of Term 2 for some schools that were affected by recent flooding.
The reversal follows the opening of a temporary access point at Mpasadzi Bridge along the M1 road, which has restored traffic movement in the area.
Mpasadzi Bridge had been washed away by strong floodwaters, leading to serious transportation challenges for learners, teachers, and school supplies.
With the improved access, all public national and district boarding secondary schools will now reopen on January 5, 2026, as originally scheduled.
Despite the progress, public schools in Nkhotakota district will remain closed until January 12, 2026, to allow authorities to continue with flood-response and recovery efforts.
The update has been communicated in an official statement signed by the Secretary for Education in the Ministry of Education, Ken Ndala.
Education authorities had earlier announced the delay in the opening of Term 2 in a statement issued on January 3, 2026.
That initial decision was made in response to widespread flood-related disruptions that affected infrastructure and access to several schools.
