MUTHARIKA CALLS FOR INTEGRITY, SERVICE AS NEW CABINET MINISTERS ARE SWORN IN

President Peter Mutharika has congratulated newly sworn-in Deputy Ministers, expressing confidence in their abilities and urging them to serve Malawians with dedication and commitment.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, the President said the appointments were based on trust in the ministers’ capabilities and their demonstrated passion to serve the people.

He emphasized that the new ministers are expected to help government effectively deliver on its development agenda.

According to the President, their elevation to Cabinet comes with significant responsibility, requiring hard work, discipline and a clear focus on national priorities.

President Mutharika reminded the ministers that the oaths they took were not ceremonial, but binding commitments to uphold and protect the Constitution.

He stressed that national interests must always come before personal gain, reiterating that his administration is people-centred and exists to serve, not to enrich individuals.

The President said he expects the new Deputy Ministers to discharge their duties with integrity, diligence and humility.

He noted that they are joining a Cabinet that has already begun delivering tangible and positive results for the country, and their inclusion is meant to strengthen capacity rather than appease political interests.

He further stated that Malawi is currently facing serious challenges, particularly the severe impacts of climate change.

Recent devastating floods, he said, have claimed lives and caused extensive damage to infrastructure, posing a major threat to the country’s socio-economic progress.

President Mutharika urged the ministers to be innovative and proactive in finding workable solutions to these challenges as the country continues on the path to economic recovery.

He said addressing climate-related disasters must be a priority if development gains are to be protected.

On governance, the President warned the new Cabinet members to strictly observe the rule of law and avoid corruption.

He described corruption as an evil that robs citizens of essential services and opportunities, while stalling national development.

Reaffirming his zero-tolerance stance, President Mutharika said he would deal decisively with anyone involved in corrupt practices, stressing that there would be no sacred cows.

He concluded by urging the ministers to resist temptation, congratulating them once again and calling on them to serve the nation with honour and distinction.
