Donald Trump’s latest travel ban has put the 2026 World Cup in jeopardy for fans from several countries, including Haiti, Iran, Senegal, and Ivory Coast. The ban, which took effect on January 1, prohibits citizens from these countries from entering the US, despite their teams qualifying for the tournament.
Haiti and Iran face a full ban, while Senegal and Ivory Coast have partial restrictions. Fans from these countries won’t be able to attend matches in the US, although athletes and coaching staff are exempt. Other countries affected include Algeria, Brazil, Cape Verde, Colombia, Egypt, Ghana, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Uruguay, and Uzbekistan, which are on a list of 75 countries subject to travel restrictions.
The Trump administration cites national security concerns and vetting deficiencies as reasons for the ban. However, fans and officials are pushing back, arguing that hosting the World Cup means allowing fans from all qualified nations to attend.
