The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Thoko Tembo, is attending the 23rd African Water and Sanitation Association (AfWASA) International Congress and Exhibition in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
The high-level gathering has brought together African leaders and sector experts to discuss practical solutions to the water and sanitation challenges facing the continent.
Running from 9th to 13th February 2026, the Congress is convening ministers, senior policymakers, regulators, utility institutions, development partners and private sector innovators from across Africa and beyond.
Participants are deliberating on key thematic areas including climate resilience, performance of water utilities, digital transformation, and sustainable financing of water and sanitation services.
Deputy Minister Tembo said the Congress provides a strategic platform for Malawi to share its experiences and learn from regional peers on best practices in water governance and service delivery.
She noted that the engagement will also help Malawi strengthen partnerships that support national priorities, particularly in improving utility efficiency and expanding access to safe water and sanitation services.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that rural and peri-urban communities stand to gain significantly from knowledge and innovations emerging from the Congress.
Malawi is expected to benefit from increased cooperation with regional and continental institutions, access to financing and technical assistance, as well as exposure to innovative technologies aimed at strengthening climate resilience and advancing ongoing reforms in the water and sanitation sector.
