MEC SATISFIED WITH VOTER REGISTRATION IN ZOMBA

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has expressed satisfaction with the voter registration exercise conducted in Zomba District from 31 January to 6 February, 2026.

MEC District Elections Officer for Zomba, Albertina Nsongolo Zidana, said the exercise was successful and recorded a positive response from eligible voters.

Zidana disclosed that the majority of new registrants for the forthcoming local government by-elections are young people.

She noted that the high turnout of youths reflects growing interest among young citizens in participating in democratic processes.

Meanwhile, Zidana announced that the voter verification exercise will take place from 17 to 18 February, 2026.

She has urged all newly registered voters to verify their details during the verification period to ensure accuracy in the voters’ roll.

MEC is scheduled to conduct local government by-elections in Chirunga and Chanda Wards in Zomba District on 17 March this year.

Registered voters have also been advised that they can verify their names using any mobile phone network by dialing *2509# on either TNM or Airtel lines.
