Member of Parliament for Zomba Malosa, Grace Kwelepeta, asked the Minister of Health to clarify government plans regarding the long-awaited Domasi Community Hospital project, noting that funds have been allocated for the facility over several years.
Kwelepeta expressed concern over the slow progress of the project despite consistent budgetary allocations, saying communities in the area have been eagerly waiting to access improved health services.
In her response, Minister of Health Madalitso Baloyi acknowledged the concerns raised about the delayed implementation of the hospital project.
Baloyi assured Parliament that her ministry has now secured the necessary resources to ensure the completion of Domasi Community Hospital.
She further indicated that the procurement process has been finalized, along with other required administrative procedures, paving the way for full implementation of the project.
The minister disclosed that construction works are expected to progress steadily, with the project scheduled for completion in December 2026.
Once completed, the hospital is expected to benefit thousands of people in Zomba Malosa and surrounding areas, reducing the distance patients currently travel to access medical services.
The facility will help decongest existing health centres, improve maternal and child health services, and enhance overall healthcare delivery for communities in the district.
