Ministers of Health and Sanitation, Madalitso Baloyi, and Local Government and Rural Development, Ben Phiri, on Monday conducted an inspection exercise at Lilongwe Main Market, Area 25 Sungwi Market, and Area 25 Health Centre following an executive order on sanitation and hygiene issued by President Arthur Peter Mutharika.

Speaking during the visit, Phiri said the inspection aimed to ensure that communities and traders are complying with the President’s directive to maintain proper hygiene and cleanliness in public places. He emphasized that the government is taking practical steps to make sure markets and public facilities remain safe and healthy for citizens.

Phiri further urged vendors and market operators to prioritize cleanliness and proper waste management in their workplaces.

According to him, maintaining clean surroundings is essential in protecting the health of both traders and customers who use these facilities daily.

On her part, Baloyi reaffirmed that her ministry remains fully committed to promoting sanitation and hygiene across the country as a key measure in preventing the spread of diseases.

She said improving hygiene standards in markets and health facilities is an important step in strengthening public health.

Baloyi also called on citizens to take personal responsibility in keeping public spaces clean, noting that collective efforts between communities and government will play a vital role in preventing disease outbreaks and creating healthier environments for all Malawians.
