MALAWI POLICE DISCIPLINE OVER 100 OFFICERS FOR MISCONDUCT

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has dismissed, demoted, and reprimanded more than 100 police officers for various forms of misconduct.

The officers were found guilty of offences including absenteeism, negligence of duty, disobedience of orders, and drunkenness while on duty.

According to Evalista Mvula Chisale, Police Commissioner responsible for Human Resource Management and Development in the service, the disciplinary actions were taken after the officers were found to have breached professional standards expected in the police service.

Speaking to Thetruth Online, security expert Sherif Kaisi emphasized that discipline is the backbone of policing.
Kaisi said the training of officers in the Malawi Police Service is founded on strict obedience to commands, where indiscipline is not tolerated.

He added that such disciplinary measures are important in restoring public confidence in the police service and maintaining professionalism among officers.
