Shira Goodwell, a recent graduate from the University of Malawi, has announced her intention to enter politics and contest for the position of Member of Parliament for Mude Constituency in Lilongwe District. At just 24 years old, Goodwell holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social and Economic History and has expressed that her passion for politics stems from the ongoing advocacy by both government and non-governmental organizations encouraging youth participation in politics.
Goodwell emphasized that, through this role, she aims to promote education for girls in her community, noting that many young girls are entering into early marriages, a situation contributing to the cycle of poverty. She also plans to create a platform for soft loans, enabling women to engage in small-scale businesses.
The aspiring politician further shared her vision to establish construction projects in her constituency, providing job opportunities for young people and helping them earn a living. “I want to promote education among young people, enabling them to realize their potential and contribute to the development of the country,” Goodwell said.
She also urged the youth of Malawi to take an active role in contributing to the socio-economic development of the nation.
