MEC CALLS FOR INTEGRITY AND PROFESSIONALISM IN ELECTORAL PROCESSES

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has called on Master Trainers to maintain the highest standards of integrity and professionalism as they execute their duties during the country’s electoral processes. The MEC’s Central Regional Elections Manager, Esimy Chisepeya, emphasized the importance of such values at a Master Trainers workshop held in Mponela, Dowa district.

Chisepeya highlighted the sensitive nature of elections, noting that individuals with impeccable integrity are essential to safeguard the electoral process. She pointed out that any negligence or lack of maturity could compromise the credibility of the elections, which is unacceptable for a process as critical as this.

“We cannot afford to compromise the integrity of our elections,” said Chisepeya. “Even in the absence of supervision, it is crucial that every individual upholds the highest standards of conduct.”

The workshop, which brought together Master Trainers, sought to prepare them for the significant role they play in ensuring that elections run smoothly and fairly. The trainers are tasked with educating other electoral officials on how to conduct themselves and manage the electoral process in accordance with MEC guidelines.

In a show of commitment, one of the Master Trainers, Febby Kagwamminga, assured the Commission of her dedication to impartiality. Kagwamminga vowed to ensure that the electoral process respects the rights of all citizens to freely choose their leaders.

“As Master Trainers, we will execute our responsibilities impartially and uphold the democratic right of every Malawian to select their preferred leaders,” Kagwamminga affirmed.

The call for integrity comes as Malawi prepares for future elections, with the MEC keen to bolster public confidence in the transparency and fairness of the electoral system. The training of Master Trainers is one of several initiatives aimed at improving the conduct of elections in the country, ensuring that all participants, from voters to officials, trust the process.

The MEC’s insistence on professionalism and integrity reflects its commitment to maintaining a credible electoral system, which is fundamental to the nation’s democracy.
