CHAKWERA CALLS ON FARMERS TO EMBRACE COMMERCIAL FARMING FOR MALAWI 2063 GOALS

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera urged farmers in Malawi to adopt a commercial approach to agriculture, highlighting it as essential for overcoming climate challenges and realizing the Malawi 2063 development agenda. Speaking on Wednesday at Malomo Trading Centre in Ntchisi, Chakwera emphasized the importance of treating farming as a business, a shift he believes will bolster the nation’s resilience to climate change.

“I would like to see Ntchisi evolve from subsistence farming to commercial farming,” Chakwera said, adding that the government’s Agricultural Commercialization Project (AGCOM) was established to assist farmers in making this transition.

President Chakwera also encouraged eligible citizens to register for the upcoming 2025 General Elections, underscoring the importance of active civic participation.

Local leaders expressed gratitude for ongoing government support in the region. Arnold Kadzanja, the Member of Parliament for Ntchisi North, praised the government’s investment in development projects through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). Additionally, Senior Chief Chilooko commended Chakwera’s leadership for recent road improvements, which have enhanced accessibility and trade in the area.
