DEPUTY MINISTER OF HEALTH DAUD URGES PUBLIC TO STOP SELLING GOVERNMENT-PROVIDED MOSQUITO NETS

Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daud, has called on community members across the country to stop selling mosquito nets distributed by the government. Her appeal came during the launch of the 2024 Insecticide-Treated Nets Mass Distribution Campaign and the Commemoration of Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Malaria Week in Balaka.

Daud expressed concern over reports of mosquito nets being sold instead of used for their intended purpose of preventing malaria. She underscored the vital role these nets play in reducing malaria infections and urged the public to use them responsibly to protect against the disease.

Vijay Kumar Gajula, Malaria Product Specialist at FOSUN Pharma and Intermed Pharmaceuticals in Malawi, also spoke at the event, emphasizing the need for cooperation among stakeholders to effectively combat malaria. He noted that his company is collaborating with the government and other organizations to provide essential malaria treatments.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 250 million people globally suffer from malaria each year.
