CHAKWERA CHALLENGES NEW MINISTERS TO DELIVER RESULTS FOR MALAWIANS

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has urged newly appointed ministers and deputy ministers to work effectively and deliver tangible results that will contribute to restoring Malawi’s progress and improving the lives of its citizens.

Speaking today at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe during the official swearing-in ceremony, the President emphasized that the appointments come with a responsibility to remain accountable to the people of Malawi. He expressed gratitude to the appointees for stepping up to serve the nation and challenged them to diligently execute their duties.

“I appointed you to deliver results. Malawi is facing significant challenges due to the poor policies and mismanagement of past administrations, particularly in the economic and agricultural sectors. Your work is critical in ensuring the progress we promised Malawians,” said Chakwera.

The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring and recovering the economy, which he said has been undermined by corruption and exploitation, including the mismanagement of the Affordable Input Program under the previous government.

Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet, Collen Zamba, explained that the appointments are made under Section 94(1) of the Constitution, which grants the President the authority to appoint ministers and deputies. She also highlighted that Section 95(2) allows the President to remove appointees if necessary.

Among those sworn in were Dr. Owen Chomanika as Minister of Natural Resources, Ezekiel Ching’oma as Minister of Homeland Security, and Dr. Jessie Kabwira as Minister of Higher Education. Deputy ministers included Joyce Chitsulo (Local Government), Benedicto Kaluwa (Unity and Culture), Adwell Chambo (Agriculture), Peter Dimba (Transport and Public Works), Patricia Nangozo Kainga (Foreign Affairs), and Noah Chimpeni (Health).

The newly sworn-in officials are expected to immediately begin addressing critical national challenges and driving reforms to restore public trust and ensure progress for the nation.
