The Minister of Gender, Jean Sendeza, has strongly condemned political segregation and violence targeting women in politics as Malawi prepares for the 2025 General Elections.
Sendeza, who also serves as the Director of Women for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), called for unity among women in politics and urged directors for women from various political parties to collaborate in addressing the issue.

She made these remarks during a solidarity press briefing on combating violence against women in elections, held in Lilongwe. The event was organized by the Women’s Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC) in partnership with OXFAM.
The briefing brought together female party officials and directors for women from several political parties, including MCP, UTM, DPP, PP, PDP, UDF, and AFORD, to discuss and develop strategies to prevent electoral violence against women.
“As women in politics, we must stand united and fight against the violence and segregation that hinder our participation,” Sendeza emphasized.
The event highlighted the need for a collective effort to ensure a safe and inclusive political environment for women ahead of the elections.
