President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has called for increased financial investment in the agriculture sector to combat the country’s persistent food shortages. Speaking at Lombwa Farm in Senior Chief Mkanda’s area during an inspection of his own mega farm, Chakwera stressed that collaboration between the private and public sectors is crucial to achieving a hunger-free nation.
“It’s possible to be a hunger-free nation if both sectors work together to promote and finance agriculture projects,” said Chakwera.
He underscored the importance of accessible loans for farmers to enhance agricultural productivity and highlighted his personal commitment to leading by example through his investment in commercial farming.
“With the help of New Building Society (NBS) Bank, I was able to finance my mega farm. I urge all banks in the country to support farmers,” he added.
Minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale, present at the event, noted that the mega farm has already created approximately 500 jobs for the local community. He called for further backing of such initiatives to safeguard the nation against hunger.
