CHIEF KASUMBU ALLOCATES LAND FOR NEW HEALTH CENTRE IN DEDZA

Senior Chief Kasumbu of Dedza has allocated land for the government to construct a health centre at the T/A Kasumbu Headquarters.

Legislator for the area, Ishmael Onani, revealed this in Parliament during a question-and-answer session with the Ministry of Health.

While the government plans to build hospitals in various districts, land availability has been a challenge. Hon. Onani and Senior Chief Kasumbu addressed this by providing land for the health centre.

“A hospital is a necessity. That’s why we prioritized allocating land to the government. Our people need it now because there are no public hospitals nearby, and private hospitals are unaffordable,” Onani said.

The new health centre is expected to serve approximately 15,000 to 18,000 people, who currently travel 24 kilometers to access services at Dedza District Hospital.

Meanwhile, Onani welcomed the completion of a modern health centre in Madzumbi, built under the Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) project. Located about 25 to 30 kilometers from the main district hospital, it will benefit around 20,000 people. Onani has invited the Minister of Health to officially open the facility.

Additionally, Onani urged the Ministry of Transport to complete the Dedza ring road, citing its poor condition. In response, Deputy Minister of Transport Peter Dimba assured that funds have been allocated in the 2025-2026 budget to complete the project.
