KABAMBE CRITICIZES BUDGET, VOWS ECONOMIC OVERHAUL

UTM President Dr. Dalitso Kabambe has criticized the proposed national budget, arguing that it will not improve Malawi’s economy and urging Members of Parliament (MPs) to reject it.

Speaking at a UTM rally at Mgona Ground on Sunday, Kabambe pointed out excessive allocations, particularly for State Residences, which he noted have risen from MWK 45 million to MWK 67 million.

He called for a reduction or removal of these funds. He also highlighted an increase in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) budget from MWK 45 billion to MWK 53 billion, arguing that such offices can operate with fewer resources.

Kabambe warned that if the budget is passed, UTM will revise it upon taking office on September 16, 2025. He pledged to allocate MWK 100 billion annually to each district council for infrastructure projects, including schools, roads, healthcare, water, and electricity, amounting to MWK 2.9 trillion in total.

He criticized the current administration for failing to address widespread hunger, stating that many Malawians are suffering and resorting to eating poisonous foods. Kabambe assured supporters that, under UTM, Malawi’s economy will be rebuilt for a better future.
