TIPOLISO CALLS FOR UNITY IN PROTECTING CHILDREN FROM DISASTERS IN ZOMBA

Tikondane Positive Living Support Organisation (TIPOLISO) has emphasized the need for collaborative efforts among organizations and stakeholders to protect children from disasters in Zomba District.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Zomba, TIPOLISO Programs Manager Shadreck Kapalamula stressed the importance of working together to safeguard children, especially in disaster-prone areas.

Kapalamula highlighted the Tiyende Pamodzi project, funded by Save the Children, which focuses on child protection in Sub-Traditional Authority (Sub T/A) Nkapita. He noted that equipping local leaders and community structures with disaster preparedness and child protection skills is crucial to reducing the risks children face during emergencies.

“Since the project began, we have been training leaders from local structures and village committees to equip them with knowledge on child protection and disaster preparedness,” said Kapalamula.

Zomba District Social Welfare official Francis Futu praised TIPOLISO for its efforts, noting that the project has helped reduce child vulnerability to disasters in the targeted area. He called on more organizations and stakeholders to step up their efforts in creating a safer environment for children.

The meeting brought together representatives from Future Vision Ministry International, YODEP, Save the Children, Zomba District Social Welfare Office, the Police, and the Youth and Gender offices.
