Traditional leaders in Nkhata Bay have hailed President Lazarus Chakwera as a beacon of hope for Malawians, citing various development projects underway in the district under his administration.
Speaking at Kavuzi Trading Centre, the final stop of President Chakwera’s whistle-stop tour in the district, Traditional Authority Kabunduli praised the President for his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of rural communities. He commended the government for completing the 900-hectare Mzenga Irrigation Scheme, which is already benefiting local farmers.
Earlier at Chintheche Trading Centre, Senior Chief Malanda applauded the President for prioritizing the welfare of traditional leaders. He pointed to the ongoing construction of decent houses for chiefs as a strong incentive for local leadership to support government initiatives.
In his remarks, President Chakwera reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing irrigation schemes across the district to combat food insecurity.
“We are determined to ensure that no one in this district or anywhere in Malawi should worry about hunger again. Let us commercialize agriculture and fully utilize the irrigation infrastructure we are providing,” Chakwera said.
Minister of Trade and President Chakwera’s running mate, Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba, reiterated the Malawi Congress Party’s vision for inclusive economic growth. He emphasized the government’s efforts to empower local businesses, boost trade, and support community development as key drivers of sustainable progress.
