President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and tackling food insecurity in Dowa District.
Speaking during a whistle-stop tour at Dowa Boma, the President announced plans to expand Matekenya Community Health Centre to improve access to quality medical services for a growing population. He said the initiative reflects government’s broader vision to enhance healthcare delivery across the country.
Chakwera also acknowledged the negative effects of climate shocks on this year’s agricultural productivity, stressing the need for collective action in overcoming challenges. He urged communities to embrace irrigation farming, highlighting the potential of the district’s rivers to boost food production and ensure long-term food security.
Shadow Member of Parliament for Dowa North East, Sam Dalitso Kawale, noted that the government’s development agenda in the district is multifaceted, citing bridge construction, electrification projects, and health facility upgrades funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Minister of Local Government and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General, Richard Chimwendo Banda, assured residents that government has already allocated resources to purchase maize for distribution to households affected by food shortages. He emphasized that no family would be left behind in the fight against hunger.
President Chakwera commended the unity and resilience of Dowa residents, saying these values continue to drive development and progress in the district.
