CTS Courier, one of the country’s leading courier companies, has trained 30 vulnerable women, including single mothers and widows, in entrepreneurship skills aimed at fostering self-reliance and economic empowerment.
The training, held at Chichiri Primary School in Blantyre, equipped the women with practical skills in soap making, baking cakes, preparing samoosas, buns, mandasi, glycerine production, and crafting artificial funeral wreaths.
To support the women in launching their businesses, CTS Courier provided start-up capital—27 participants each received MK100,000, while three physically challenged women were given MK200,000 each.
CTS Courier Director, Jacqueline Bokosi, said the initiative was designed to address both skill development and financial empowerment.
“Through these trainings, some women will be able to support their husbands, because as you know, many men end up committing suicide due to financial struggles in providing for their families. With these skills, women will help ease the burden. For single mothers, this initiative will make them independent and able to take care of their children,” Bokosi said.
She added that similar training sessions are planned for Mzuzu, Lilongwe, and Zomba.
One of the beneficiaries, Ellen Mwachande from Chilobwe, expressed gratitude, saying she had acquired valuable skills in soap and glycerine production that would enable her to generate income and support her household.
The trainings were facilitated by Lake Investments, Business Management, and Distinction Management Consultants.
