The Musicians Union of Malawi (MUM) is set to launch its Endowment Fund at a Gala Dinner on Saturday, 8th November 2025, at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe.
This initiative marks a bold step toward building a sustainable financial foundation for the Union’s long-term programmes, aimed at empowering musicians across Malawi.
The MUM Endowment Fund seeks to raise K100 million, which will serve as a permanent investment base. Only the interest or dividends generated from the fund will be used to finance MUM’s activities, yearly, while the principal amount will remain untouched, ensuring the Fund’s sustainability for generations to come.
The fund aims to support capacity Building: Equipping artists with professional, managerial, and artistic skills to thrive in a modern music industry.
Career Development: Creating pathways for growth, exposure, and innovation in music production, performance, and management.
Welfare Support: Establishing a safety net to assist musicians in times of distress, health challenges, or emergencies.
MUM President, Mr. Vita Chirwa, emphasized that the Endowment Fund represents a new approach for the Union.
“For too long, our growth as a creative sector has been hindered by limited and inconsistent resources. This Fund will ensure that musicians’ welfare, education, and professional advancement are continuously supported regardless of funding cycles or donor shifts.” he said.
The Musicians Union of Malawi is therefore appealing to the Government, the Corporate World, Development Partners, and well-wishing individuals to rally behind this noble cause.
By contributing to the Endowment Fund, partners will be investing in the future of Malawi’s creative industry, and helping to secure a dignified and sustainable livelihood for local artists.
The Gala Dinner promises a night of elegance, live performances, and unity of purpose as the music community joins hands with partners to invest in the Future of Malawian Musicians.
Renowned Musician, Lulu, will headline the event, and will be supported by other celebrated Musicians
