MINISTER BEN PHIRI ASSURES WORLD BANK NOT TO ABUSE RESOURCES

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr. Ben Phiri on Tuesday promised World Bank that no resource will be subjected to abuse adding that proper measures will be strengthened to curb any malpractice towards implementation of all projects. 

Dr. Phiri said this during the meeting with the World Bank representatives who paid a courtesy call to his office in Capitol Hill, Lilongwe. 

He said his ministry will make sure that it puts in place effective measures that will also assist in depoliticizing constituency development funds as councils are expected to receive an annual allocation of MK5 billion per constituency.

World Bank delegation was led by Regional Practice Director, Hassan Zaman who engaged the minister on a number of issues, sharing insights and observations from the banks funded projects. 

The discussion centered on what can be further incorporated in support of the Malawi Agenda 2063 pillars. 

Dr. Phiri assured the team of effective service delivery in all projects being implemented in different councils. 

He also shared with the team the dashboard that the ministry is implementing which among others will enable donors, stakeholders, NGOs and individuals to access and see progress of projects and its implementors.
