Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Shadric Namalomba, has called on journalists at the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) to intensify their focus on governance and accountability reporting.
Speaking during a tour of the MBC Kwacha Studios in Blantyre, Namalomba stressed that the public broadcaster must not operate as a tool for propaganda, but as a catalyst for national development.
“I am not here to tell you what to write or not to write. This institution is not meant to attack any person, and as you know, the current government won without relying on any propaganda from the public broadcaster. So, do your job, hold duty bearers accountable, and amplify the development initiatives being implemented by government,” he said.
The Minister also pledged full support toward strengthening the broadcaster’s operations.During the engagement, Namalomba officially introduced Moses Chiwoni as the newly appointed Acting Director General of MBC.
Chiwoni, who serves as Director of ICT in the Department of E-Government, joins the institution under public service secondment regulations.Namalomba further urged employees to prioritise the interests of Malawians and carry out their duties with diligence.
“It is sad to note that the leadership that was here was serving the interests of certain political parties, diverting from their core responsibility of informing, educating and entertaining the masses,” he added.
