The Neno District Council has said that every citizen has the right to monitor how public development funds are being used within the district.
District Commissioner Rosemary Nawasha made the remarks after the council received a letter from Hebrews Misomali, a former parliamentary candidate for Neno North, who is demanding a detailed explanation on how the council has managed the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and District Development Fund (DDF) over the past 16 years.
In his letter addressed to the council and other relevant authorities, Misomali argues that he is dissatisfied with the level of development in the district, particularly in areas such as school infrastructure, security offices, and access to clean water.
He is therefore asking the council to account for how the development funds have been utilized.
The letter further indicates that Misomali and a group of concerned citizens plan to submit a comprehensive petition next week, outlining their grievances in detail.
Responding through her office, Neno North legislator Thoko Tembo has asked the District Commissioner to provide Misomali with the information he is requesting, emphasising that it is his constitutional right to access public records.
Meanwhile, DC Nawasha has assured the public that the council operates transparently and has already informed Misomali that he is free to access any documents he wishes to review, including visiting various development sites across the district.
