DR. ANSAH CLOSES CABINET RETREAT WITH CALL FOR URGENT ACTION

Vice President Justice Dr Jane Mayemu Ansah yesterday officially closed the Malawi Cabinet Retreat in Mangochi on behalf of President Arthur Peter Mutharika.

The three-day meeting — supported by UNDP — saw Cabinet Ministers engage in intensive reflection on how to accelerate national transformation under the theme: “Delivering the Promise: Building Resilient Economy, Accountable Governance and Strategic Partnerships for Malawi’s Transformation.”

The Retreat functioned as a renewed launch pad for turning the President’s vision into tangible, results-driven actions.

Throughout the sessions, Dr Ansah underscored the urgent need for Government to operate “better and differently,” reminding Cabinet that Malawians, who have endured significant hardship over the past five years, are looking to their leaders for hope and meaningful progress.

She reiterated the President’s directive that this is a moment for service, not self-interest, and urged full implementation of the resolutions presented by the Chief Secretary.

Dr Ansah also recognised the contribution of presenters and facilitators whose expertise in economic management, public sector reforms and governance enriched the dialogue. Their insights aligned with the DPP Manifesto and the Malawi 2063 pillars of Agricultural Productivity and Commercialisation, Industrialisation and Urbanisation, which remain critical to easing fiscal pressures, resolving foreign-exchange shortages, managing public debt and combating persistent food insecurity.

The Vice President extended gratitude to the Second Vice President and all Cabinet Members for their commitment throughout the intense, late-running sessions. She further commended the Ministers who moderated discussions for fostering an atmosphere of constructive engagement.

She also thanked UNDP for its financial and technical support — including the Gala Dinner held in her honour on 28 November — noting that such partnership reinforces a shared commitment to driving Malawi’s transformation through collective effort.

In closing, Dr Ansah reminded Cabinet of the President’s guidance against “endless and unproductive meetings,” stressing that the resolutions adopted must now translate into concrete, measurable action.
